Parent Workshops

SOS!SEN runs regular hands on training sessions to help parents on topics such as how to appeal an EHC Plan or how to prepare for a Tribunal hearing.  We also run Topic Workshops  ( see "Topic Workshops" tab) 

Donations: We are an independent charity and rely on donations through our workshops, 1:1 meetings, fundraising events, and our children’s charity shop in Hampton Hill . This allows us to give you impartial and legally based advice.

Thursday 19th January

Annual Reviews including transition review to EHC plans and interim reviews – what you need to know

led by Marion Strudwick

Time: 9.30am to 1.30pm

This workshop is vital for learning more about managing the annual review and managing the review meeting for an EHCP transition.

Tuesday 24th January

Appeals against the contents of an EHC plan – parts to appeal and how

led by Eleanor Wright, Solicitor and SOS!SEN Co-ordinator

Time: 9.30am to 4pm - to include a sandwich lunch

This workshop is suitable for parents and young people issued with an EHCP following assessment or amendment or following a transfer from a statement. It will cover how to appeal with tips on drafting appeal grounds, and will deal with tribunal procedure and strategy.

led by Eleanor Wright, Solicitor and SOS!SEN Co-ordinator

Time: 9.30am to 1.30pm

This workshop is suitable for people wanting to know more about the contents of the Education, Health and Care Plan and where evidence should be located. Also includes how to enforce the plan.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORKSHOP CONCENTRATES ON THE EHC PLAN ONLY.

Saturday 4th February

Understanding sections B, E & F on the EHCP - including outcomes

led by Marion Strudwick

Time: 9.30am to 4pm - to include a sandwich lunch

This workshop will give parents an overview of the EHCP and all its sections. It will include the sections that can or cannot be appealed to the SEN Tribunal.It will cover the contents of an EHCP and how to check for accuracy and levels of severity and the importance of the presentation of needs and the relationship to other sections.
***The workshop will also give parents/carers an understanding of “outcomes” and the vital importance of getting this section right***

16+ and 18+ Transfer to EHCPs including transition and appeals

This workshop is for parents/carers or young people aged 16+/18+ who are likely to transfer to an Education, Health, Care plan or people who are beginning the process and haven’t had a statement before. It will cover the process, choosing the right placement, and information on appealing.
